Clyde Findlay Area Credit Union was established in 1937 in Clyde, Ohio, originally organized by the employees of the Davidson Enamel Company. In 1956 the credit union became affiliated with the Whirlpool Clyde Division and merged with the Whirlpool Findlay Division in 1971. In 1995 the Clyde Findlay Area Credit Union became a state chartered institution, and membership became open to anyone who lives, works, worships or attends school in Hancock, Sandusky and Seneca counties. Certified Networker of Ohio provides word-of-mouth, referral-based marketing training in the Northwest Ohio region. Since 2002, when the Certified Networker classes began in the Findlay-Hancock area, more than 550 people have graduated from this innovative and interactive training.

Through the efforts of many dedicated parents and other individuals interested in improving the lives of persons with developmental disabilities, the Hancock County Council for Retarded Children and Adults was founded in 1952. Blanchard Valley Industries (BVI) employs individuals with developmental disabilities. They work with area business and provide shredding, packaging, labeling, collating, light assembly and microfilming services.
 
Outside of BVI, supervised work opportunities are available at several worksites, where a crew of consumers provides janitorial, food service, or factory work in community locations.  Currently, there are four community worksites from which individuals may choose to work.
 
Blanchard Valley Industries adult workshop also provides Day Habilitation activities for those who are not vocationally oriented.  These activities range from cooking to crafts to community outings. For individuals in our program who no longer wish to work, we offer a Seniors Program, designed to meet the needs and interests of an older population who is ready to retire from the workforce. 
 
Blanchard Valley Industries continually strives to meet the vocational, social, communication, and self-help needs of individuals within our adult program.  Nursing, speech and occupational therapy services are provided as well.  BVI exists to assist and support individuals with disabilities in any way that is needed.

Blanchard Valley Industries is ISO 9001:2008 and CARF Certified.
 
 
How has your Chamber membership benefited your organization?:

Brad Smith, BVI Sales Manager, said that the main way Chamber membership has benefited BVI is by helping them, “get our name out in to the community and have let businesses know how we can help them.” Brad is a GreaterFindlayInc. Ambassador, sits on the Center for Entrepreneurship Advisory Council and regularly attends Chamber activities such as Fresh Brewed Business.

The Macklin Institutewas established in July of 2003 through an endowment by Marilyn and Gordon Macklin, former residents of Findlay, Ohio as a way to give back to the community. The Macklin Institute’s mission is to continually improve lives of all ages through intergenerational care, training and consultation.

The Institute owns and operates Marilyn’s Lifelong Educational Center, an intergenerational childcare center that is located in Birchaven Retirement Village. The Center is licensed for 72 Children that interact on a daily basis with the Elders at Birchaven. The Macklin Institute also provides consultation services for programs both nationally and internationally that would like to improve an existing intergenerational program or develop one from the ground up. Xtreme Aging™ Training, an experiential aging awareness training, and the Intergenerational Certificate Training, which prepares individuals to work simultaneously with Children and Elders, are also offered by the Institute.

What the Institute says about the Chamber of Commerce:
 
“Our Chamber membership has benefited the Institute by keeping us informed as to what is happening in the community and events that we should be a part of. The Chamber is also a great resource for the Macklin Institute by providing maps and supplies for the many visitors that come to Findlay to see our program.”

The Institute also recently provided the Xtreme Aging Training to the GFI Hancock Youth Leadership Group. They plan on becoming involved with the Adult Leadership Group as well as any other service groups that would want to visit the program or hear more about them.
