Advance registration is necessary to attend by contacting the HPD office, located at 1424 East Main Cross Street, Findlay with a $5 fee, per person by Friday, July 2. Light refreshments served afterwards.

Habitat for Humanity ReStore Hires New Volunteer Coordinator

(Findlay, OH – June 17) The Findlay/Hancock County Habitat for Humanity affiliate is proud to announce that Kimm Odone has been promoted to Volunteer Coordinator for the Habitat for Humanity ReStore.

Odone joined Habitat in 2008 as Administrative Assistant and will be expanding her responsibilities to include volunteer recruitment, staffing and training for the Habitat ReStore located at 2042 Tiffin Avenue, Findlay, next to Cheddars behind Carpet Mart.

“We are excited to have Kimm’s role expanded.   This was only made possible through a grant from the Community Foundation for the ReStore,” stated Wendy McCormick, Executive Director.  “ReStore is operated daily with volunteers – Kimm’s role is critical to ReStore’s success!”

ReStore accepts donations of used, discounted, or overstocked home improvement and building materials from home owners, contractors, or building supply stores.  Items are offered for sale to the public at 50%-80% below retail. The profits are then used to help local families in need realize their dream of home ownership.

Odone is working to recruit volunteers who are willing to donate their time and energy in various positions at ReStore including cashiers, sales floor associates, and back room stockers and loaders.  Volunteers are needed when the store is open Thursday 3pm-8 pm, Friday’s noon – 4 pm and Saturdays 8am – 4 pm.  Training and orientation will be provided.

Habitat will use ReStore as an opportunity to educate volunteers on the issues of poverty housing.  It is also a good time to remind individuals about the importance of volunteering and making volunteer service a regular part of their lives.  Current build volunteers will be encouraged to join us year-round, engage their own local churches and organizations as ReStore Volunteer teams.

“America was built on the spirit of volunteerism and so was our community. Now is an exciting time to continue that building with Habitat as we continue to build more than houses.” said McCormick. McCormick noted that volunteer service is everyone’s responsibility and each of us can make a difference. “Putting our faith into action is one of Habitat’s founding principles,” she added.

Habitat for Humanity of Findlay/Hancock County is a non-profit Christian based organization that builds houses with low income families.  The houses are funded by local donors and are built by volunteers and partner families from the community and sold at no profit – no interest to partner families in need. The mortgage payments made by homeowners are used to build more houses.

To learn how you can volunteer with Habitat’s ReStore or obtain a volunteer intake form, call the Habitat ReStore at 419-425-3900 or visit www.habitatfindlay.org.

Handbags That Help Membership Deadline July 15
FINDLAY, OH— Handbags That Help women’s giving circle members and new members who wish to participate in the annual Interest Inventory survey are reminded to submit their 2010-2011 membership contribution and registration form by July 15, 2010. The Interest Inventory is a survey which helps determine what issues are important to the membership. The results of this survey help the Grants Committee set grant priorities for the coming year. Interest Inventories will be mailed in July to be returned in August. Results will be tabulated, reviewed by the Grants
Committee, and presented at the September meeting. Memberships will continue to be accepted through September 15; however, memberships received after July 15 will not be eligible to participate in the Interest Inventory.

The giving circle is open to all area women. The only requirement for membership is a $500 annual contribution. That donation gives each member a single vote as to how the pooled funds will be awarded that year. As an alternative to the $500 Individual Voting Membership, women can share a Joint Membership. With a Joint Membership, 2-5 women split a membership and share a single vote. Each member is also required to pay a $30 administrative fee to support the expenses of organization.

The Handbags That Help women’s giving circle is supported by the Findlay-Hancock County Community Foundation. To join or for more information regarding Handbags That Help please contact the Community Foundation at 419-425-1100 or visit their website at www.communityfoundation.com
